Mother Daughter

Mother Daughter

Michelle with one of her six daughters.

For the longest time, Michele never knew that I had painted this.  I wanted to see if I could do another baby and loved this picture, so decided to give it a try.

I’m happy with the results.  I have come to understand that it’s a scary thing to see yourself in an oil portrait.  We never see ourselves as other people see us, and when you look at yourself in a portrait you come to that realization.  There is something more permanent in an oil portrait than there is in a photo.  Photos come a dime a dozen, but with a portrait, you are locked in time…just a second of your life forever to be criticized by yourself and others.
